Responsible Energy exists for people who want to understand resilient energy transition without the tribalism.
“Most energy commentary picks a side. Responsible Energy reframes the debate on resilient energy transition, low carbon ventures, energy efficient AI and industrial decarbonisation.”
- John MacArthur FREng FEI; Shell, ADNOC, OGCI, Imperial College.
Each week I unpack the dilemmas and trade-offs behind resilient energy transition: what the energy trilemma of security, affordability and sustainability means in practice, what low‑carbon ventures need to deliver to really scale, what are the opportunities for energy‑efficient AI, and where industrial decarbonisation is working well or failing badly in the real economy. My focus is pragmatic and candid. I share credible pathways, investable ideas, and operational lessons from major multi-million dollar energy projects, rather than slogans or wishful thinking.
You’ll get:
Clear explanations of complex policy, scenarios and market shifts
Case‑driven analysis of low‑carbon and efficiency technology ventures
Insights you can use in board packs, investment memos, and strategy
I’m John MacArthur, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Fellow of the Energy Institute. I’ve led and advised energy leaders and boards on energy transition and decarbonisation initiatives across Shell, ADNOC, and corporate clients. I was founding chair of OGCI Climate Investments, the billion-dollar-plus clean tech venture fund, and I am a visiting Professor in Net Zero Energy Transition at Imperial College, London, and Honorary Chair of the London College of Energy Economics.
I led Shell’s two major R&D centres in The Netherlands and I have guided many venture founders. During my international career I lived in the Far East, Middle East, Europe and North Africa, and visited every continent including Antarctica. Living in countries adds local appreciation to global understanding. That mix of international energy professional, investor, and academic experience shapes how I look at risks, technology, geopolitics and policy, and how I write about them for you.
If you work in energy, or industrial leadership, finance, consulting or climate policy and want rigorous, de‑polarised analysis you can actually use on a weekday morning, Responsible Energy is for you.
